THE OAXACA RESIDENCY NOT A PHOTO WORKSHOP. IT IS MORE A GATHERING OF CREATIVES. WE WILL MAKE WORK, DISCUSS AND COLLABORATE. WE WILL VISIT AND CHAT WITH POWERFUL WOMEN IN THE FIELDS OF CRAFT, FOOD AND MESCAL. WHILE I WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPHY TUTORIALS THIS RESIDENCY IS MORE OF A COLLABORATION AND EXPLORATION OF YOUR WORK AND THE WOMEN CREATIVES OF OAXACA.

About:

The Las Mujeres Fuertes project works to continue the effort of creating an international community of strong women that is focused on supporting international women’s rights, health, and education, and to create a time and space for conversation and connection within this community.  

The residency is an opportunity to celebrate and learn from a remarkable group of Oaxacan women through intimate interaction, education and thoughtful discussion.  It is also a time for intentional conversation and reflection within a group of fellow women participants, as well as for personal observation and research.

The program offers five days of lectures, discussions, visits and meals with Oaxacan partners (including, amongst others, Gabriela Fernández Orantes, bio-engineer and founder of Itanoni restaurant, Pastora Guiterez of Nueva Vida, the first women’s Weaving Collective of Teotitlan, Graciela Angeles Carreño, mezcalera and Director of Real Minero mezcal, Ana Paula Fuentes, founding director of the Museo Textil de Oaxaca, Susanna Trilling, chef, teacher and founder of Seasons of My Heart cooking school, Salime Harp Cruces, Industrial Engineer and founder of Xaquixe Glass Studioalong with fellow participants.  Time for individual exploration, relaxation, and reading will be available each afternoon --participants are encouraged to utilize writing, photography and any other forms of documentation, personal work or research throughout the week.    

THE MUJERES FUERTES project also includes the production of a portrait and profile series of Oaxacan women to be exhibited between Oaxaca and New York later this year. 

PROFITS FROM LAS MUJERES FUERTES SUPPORT LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS PROVIDING SERVICES FOR WOMEN'S HEALTH AND EDUCATION.

The total cost is $2500/person based on shared occupancy.  Your daughters are welcome. 

Residency fee includes lodging, meals, internal transportation, all events and programming, as well as a variety of Oaxacan objects and a forthcoming book of portraits.
